Charles E. Petersen has been a lawyer for 35 years. Since 1990 he has focused primarily on matrimonial law cases. He has handled or tried cases from the simple to the complex. These cases have included complex business valuations, pensions, custody, child visitation, support and maintenance. His case load includes dissolutions, pre-decree matters, post-decree matters and appeals. While most of his cases are in Kane and Kendall, he does practice in DeKalb, DuPage and Will counties.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University in 1973. Subsequently he attended John Marshall Law School night school while working at Caterpillar Tractor Company. He graduated with distinction in 1977. While an Assistant State's Attorney he was the first head of the Priority Prosecution Unit in charge of handling cases with mandatory penitentiary sentences. Both in his time as an assistant State's Attorney and afterward, he taught trial advocacy with State's Attorney Appellate Prosecutors Office.
Aside from matrimonial cases, he practices in the areas of criminal, real estate, contracts, traffic, wills and business law.
