Ronald J. Cook is a shareholder with the firm and specializes in business litigation with an emphasis on litigation-based insurance issues including coverage, defense and bad faith. He also frequently handles first-party property claims and construction dispute matters. Mr. Cook also serves as a private binding arbitrator and mediator, helping to quickly and efficiently resolve insurance coverage issues that can impede dispute resolution. Having represented both plaintiffs and defendants as a litigator, he has a perspective from both sides of the table. In addition to insurance, his practice includes commercial litigation, construction, real estate, personal injury and landlord-tenant law.
Mr. Cook has been selected for inclusion in “The Best Lawyers in America”, and named a “Top Lawyer” by Corporate Counsel and is a Northern California Super Lawyer. He is a frequent lecturer on insurance and litigation topics and an active member of the Santa Clara Country Bar Association, volunteering his time as a settlement Judge Pro Tem and judicial arbitrator. Mr. Cook also serves on the board of Girls on the Run, a non-profit prevention program encouraging preteen girls to develop healthy lifestyles through running.
Mr. Cook obtained his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law where he was president of the Moot Court Board, participated in the regional Mock Trial Competition, and served as an extern for the Judiciary Committee of the Oregon State Legislature. Mr. Cook was also a recipient of the American Jurisdprudence Awards in commercial law, criminal procedure, and insurance law. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of California, San Diego.
Mr. Cook grew up in San Jose and lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains with his wife and two children. He is an avid mountain biker, runner and outdoorsman.
