Clare joined Kirkpatrick & Goldsborough in May, 2008, to provide legal services to the firm's growing client base. Clare brings to the firm considerable experience in the area of criminal defense. In addition to trial work, Clare is also an experienced appellate attorney.
Prior to joining the practice, Clare worked as a public defender in Virginia for seven years, providing criminal defense to indigent clients. Clare's practice focused primarily on cases involving juveniles and domestic violence before the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, but she also carried a substantial adult felony case load.
During her tenure as a public defender, Clare took a leave of absence to serve on active-duty with the United States Army Legal Services Agency. As a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps, Clare was assigned to the Trial Counsel Assistance Program where she worked as a special trial counsel for high profile military prosecutions and later as an appellate attorney where she argued before the Army Court of Criminal Appeals and the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C.
Prior to her commission in 2000, Clare served on active-duty from 1991-1994 and later joined the Vermont National Guard in 1996. Clare is still an active member of the United States Army Reserve, serving as a reservist with the 7th Legal Support Organization in Albany, NY. Clare took a leave of absence from the firm to serve as the Brigade Judge Advocate for the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade in Germany from November 2010 to November 2011.
At Kirkpatrick & Goldsborough, Clare focuses her practice on domestic relations, personal injury, and criminal defense. Clare has a special interest in providing legal services to veterans.
