Cavanaugh, Brian P.

Brian P. Cavanaugh has been a partner at the firm since 2001 and concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy, creditors' and debtors' rights, and family law -- divorce, custody and support, civil litigation and estate administration.

In 1991, Mr. Cavanaugh graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts in history.  In 1994, Mr. Cavanaugh graduated from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law with his Juris Doctor.

Upon graduating from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law, Mr. Cavanaugh became an associate of the Law Offices of Carl P. Izzo, Jr. located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.  Later, Mr. Izzo and Mr. Cavanaugh formed the firm of Izzo & Cavanaugh.  At Izzo & Cavanaugh, Mr. Cavanaugh's practice focused on the areas of bankruptcy and debtors' and creditors' rights.  During his time with Izzo & Cavanaugh, Mr. Cavanaugh filed numerous Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases.  Mr. Cavanaugh also assisted Mr. Izzo, an interim Chapter 7 trustee, with the administration of hundreds of Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases.  Subsequent to Mr. Izzo's passing in 2000, Mr. Cavanaugh joined the firm of Stewart, McCormick, McArdle & Sorice in 2001.  In 2003, Mr. Cavanaugh became a partner in the law firm of Stewart, McArdle, Sorice, Whalen, Farrell, Finoli & Cavanaugh, LLC.  During his time at the firm, Mr. Cavanaugh has continued to focus his practice on the areas of bankruptcy, creditors' and debtors' rights.  In addition, Mr. Cavanaugh has expanded his practice into family law -- divorce, custody and support, civil litigation and estate administration.

Mr. Cavanaugh is admitted to practice before the Courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit.  Mr. Cavanaugh is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Westmoreland County Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Association. Mr. Cavanaugh is the chairman of the Westmoreland County Bankruptcy Committee and is a member of the Allegheny County Bankruptcy Law Section and the Westmoreland County Family Law Committee.  Mr. Cavanaugh has authored seminar materials and has spoken at various seminars and continuing legal education programs relating to the practice of bankruptcy law.
