As an attorney for nearly thirty years, James R. Carter has broad and diverse experience in the trial and appeal of Civil matters, with a concentration in Catastrophic Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, Asbestos and Silica related Toxic Tort Litigation, Medical Malpractice, Legal Malpractice, and, as well, commercial issues involving corporate dissolution and securities related claims. Mr. Carter has handled matters in courts throughout the state, as well as regionally. He has tried over 40 cases to verdict, the longest trial being 8 weeks in duration. He has also personally handled over 35 appeals, including 3 appearances before the Illinois Supreme Court.
A member of several professional organizations, including the Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and American Association of Justice, Mr. Carter has lectured at numerous Bar and non-Bar association functions. He is a Master in the Abraham Lincoln Inn of Court.
In a statewide survey of his peers, Jim was named a "Leading Lawyer" and recognized to be among the top lawyers in Illinois. The number of "Leading Lawyers" never exceeds 5% of the licensed attorneys in Illinois.
Mr. Carter has, as well, devoted himself to the community, participating on the boards of several organizations, most notably the Midwest Affiliate of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital located in Peoria, Illinois, where he is presently an active member and sits on the Executive Committee as Legal Counsel. He has previously served on the board of the Cornstock Theater, where he was charged with heading up the Ad Hoc Building Committee to develop and fund a new theater in the park. Mr. Carter, as well, has been an active and strong supporter of numerous other organizations, including the local Easter Seals Clinic and Penguine Project, a unique performing arts experience for developmentally disabled/delayed children in the community. He is a Life Sponsor of Ducks Unlimited. As an avid outdoorsmen, Mr. Carter enjoys hunting and fishing when the time allows. Mr. Carter has three children: two daughters and a son.
