Gunther O. Carrle graduated with honors from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976, and a Master of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering in 1977. Mr. Carrle was selected as a national research fellow for the American Institute of Steel Construction. In 1980, he received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and, thereafter, attended Judge Advocate General School at the University of Virginia, where he graduated first in his class. Mr. Carrle then commenced active duty with the Judge Advocate General Corps-U.S. Army Legal Services Agency, during which he litigated hundreds of cases. While serving in the military, Mr. Carrle pursued Graduate Legal Studies at the National Law Center of the George Washington University, concentrating in the area of federal procurement.
Mr. Carrle's practice focuses on the litigation of technically complex matters, with a concentration on the representation of architects and engineers. He has successfully represented clients in cases brought in numerous state and federal courts and arbitration forums. His experience in representing design professionals has involved virtually every aspect of the construction process. Drawing on his engineering and litigation experience, Mr. Carrle devotes a substantial portion of his practice to counseling design professionals in preparing and negotiating contract documents, with an eye toward avoiding the ambiguity and defects that inevitably lead to litigation. He has been actively involved in counseling and advising clients when problems arise during a project in an effort to help them avoid costly litigation.
Mr. Carrle lectures extensively on professional liability issues for design professionals. He is a regular speaker at seminars and lectures for design professionals sponsored by various professional societies, addressing issues relating to professional liability, litigation avoidance, and insurance coverage. He works extensively with professional societies dedicated to furthering the interests of design professionals. Mr. Carrle currently serves as the Chairman of the Legislation Committee for the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. Mr. Carrle has written many articles on both technical and legal issues.
Mr. Carrle is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
