Catherine Carroll is a partner in the firm's Litigation/Controversy Department, and a member of the Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation and Government and Regulatory Litigation Practice Groups. She joined the firm in 2005.
Practice
Ms. Carroll’s practice focuses on appellate litigation in the US Supreme Court and the federal and state courts of appeals. She has handled matters involving a wide range of issues of federal law, including federal preemption of state law in the pharmaceutical and banking areas, separation of powers and national security issues, and criminal law and procedure. She has also been involved in appellate matters raising issues of contract law, insurance law, and bankruptcy law. In addition to her appellate litigation experience, Ms. Carroll has played a key role in cases in the federal district courts and has helped advise clients on issues of constitutional law with respect to proposed legislation.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Carroll served as a law clerk to Associate Justice David H. Souter of the United States Supreme Court. Previously, she clerked for The Honorable Harry T. Edwards of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Ms. Carroll received her JD, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 2002.
