David L. Caplan has been a practicing lawyer for the past 30 years with the concentration in Worker’s Compensation Law. He has been a member of GWC since 1990 and a partner since 1996. In addition to handling a full caseload of complex workers’ compensation clients, Mr. Caplan co-manages the Worker’s Compensation section of the firm making sure that all Workers’ Compensation clients are handled as efficiently and expeditiously as possible, without compromising the quality of legal representation.
David has established himself as a respected member of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Bar. He has diligently represented thousands of injured workers with tenacity and integrity before the Workers’ Compensation Commission, Circuit Courts, and Appellate Courts of the State of Illinois. As the senior Workers’ Compensation trial lawyer in the firm, Mr. Caplan concentrates his practice on seriously injured individuals in all trades and occupations employing a fresh, creative litigation style. David emphasizes vocational rehabilitation to include reeducation in trade schools or colleges for those individuals who are permanently disabled from returning to their careers.
Throughout his career at GWC, David has represented severely injured individuals who have suffered from regional pain syndrome (RSD), traumatic brain injuries, catastrophic spinal injuries, multiple fractures, crippling injuries to knees and shoulders, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
David takes great pride in maximizing his clients’ benefits under the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act. In 2009, he had multiple settlements or awards in excessive of $250,000.00 and a single settlement valued at approximately $1,000,000.00. In addition, he has dozen of clients pursuing vocational retraining in new careers to accommodate their permanent restrictions. David believes that retraining is the most desirable outcome for younger workers. He points to a 28-year-old Union Carpenter with a debilitating leg injury currently attending college working towards a BA in Construction Technology, and a 35-year-old Union Laborer suffering from regional pain syndrome(RSD) currently enrolled at the University of Wisconsin to obtain a BA in Education as examples of how seriously injured clients can be retrained to function in a new capacity to support themselves and their families.
David Caplan is licensed to practice in Illinois and Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
