Thomas C. Capps is an attorney with over 35 years practice experience in the areas of family law, civil litigation, real estate, wills and estates, traffic, municipal and public school law. Tom has been a partner with Withers, Brant, Igoe and Mullennix since joining the firm in 1993. Tom has provided representation in over 1,000 family law matters either by trial or settlement. Tom has represented numerous local businesses and countless individuals in Liberty and surrounding areas in litigation and non-litigation matters. Tom has served as a Municipal Judge for over 27 years and has maintained an AV/Pre-eminent rating by Martindale Hubbell independent legal rating service (the highest for competency and ethics) for over 15 years. Tom has extensive experience in both non-jury and jury trials and the negotiation and mediation of client matters. Tom is listed in the Missouri Bar directory of "neutrals" as a mediator for dispute resolution and is a participant in the Clay County Office of Dispute Resolution mediation voucher program.
Tom graduated from Liberty High School in 1971, Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa) 1974 and the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Law, 1977. He is a member of the Missouri and Clay County Bar Associations.
Tom served as the President of the Clay County Bar Association in 1995 and President of the Clay-Platte Municipal Judges' Association in 1991. In addition to professional organizations Tom has served on the Board of Directors of the Liberty Area Chamber of Commerce, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) former local chapter president and on the Board of Trustees of the Clay County Archives and Historical Library. Tom is a lifelong Liberty/Clay County resident where he and his wife Marcia raised their four children.
