Butler, Lisa

Edward J. Butler graduated from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1991 with a B.A. in Political Science, with High Honors.  He received his law degree in 1994 from Columbia University School of Law in New York City.

After law school, he worked in the legal department of IBM Corporation in Armonk, New York.  In that position, he provided advice and counseling on various labor and employment issues and disputes throughout the corporation.

In 1996, Ed Butler joined Sherman & Howard, L.L.C. in its Colorado Springs, Colorado office.  He worked as an associate and then a member of Sherman & Howard, representing employers in labor and employment law cases and other matters for 16 years.  In 2012, he left Sherman & Howard to join Crist, Krogh & Nord.

Ed Butler has litigated all kinds of labor and employment cases and disputes from jury trials to court trials, to arbitrations and administrative hearings.  He has defended employers in cases involving discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, marital status and military status.  He also has defended employers in cases involving sexual and other forms of harassment, and claims of retaliation. 

He has represented employers on other claims under state and federal law, including wrongful discharge, wage claims, contract claims, promissory estoppel, invasion of privacy, negligence, defamation, blacklisting and outrageous conduct.  He also has represented employers in labor arbitrations under collective bargaining agreements, arbitrations under the AAA and arbitrations under other state and federal laws. 

Ed Butler has represented employers in union organizing campaigns and representation cases before the National Labor Relations Board.  He also has represented employers in unfair labor practice cases before the National Labor Relations Board.

Ed Butler has provided advice, counseling and training on all aspects of labor and employment law.  This advice and training has included managing equal employment opportunity issues, providing education on sexual and other forms of harassment, responding to and resolving internal complaints of discrimination, harassment and retaliation, conducting investigations, drafting and enforcing effective employment policies, disciplining and discharging employees, responding to wrongful discharge complaints, effectively managing accommodation requests for religious beliefs, providing reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities and dealing with other disability discrimination issues, managing employee leaves under various laws and dealing effectively with union organizing and other union issues.
