Ms. Burrows is counsel to the firm in its Commercial Litigation Department and is a member of the Reinsurance Practice Group. She focuses her practice on reinsurance and insurance coverage disputes.
Ms. Burrows has represented insurance and reinsurance companies in complex coverage matters involving both litigation and arbitration for over 25 years. Her arbitration and litigation experience includes asbestos, environmental and other long-term exposure claims concerning follow-the-form and follow-the-fortunes issues, application of aggregate extension clauses and the accumulation of claims, pro-ration of retentions and deductible in multi-year policies, clash cover, extra-contractual coverage and Bellefonte issues. In addition, Ms. Burrows has represented insurers and reinsurers in various complex cases including arising out of the Liberian Civil War, mass disasters such as the San Juan DuPont Plaza Hotel fire and the $1.2 billion EPIC mortgage default. Ms. Burrows also counsels reinsurers with respect to contract wordings and has drafted complex international treaty programs.
Mr. Burrows has designed and implemented audit programs for both insurers and reinsurers with respect to substantial professional liability (accountants and attorneys) and contractors liability books of business. Her expertise includes evaluating complex claims and positioning them to obtain optimal reinsurance and/or retrocessional recoveries on behalf of clients. She additionally assists clients in the implementation of settlement agreement details, including addressing billing and payment issues.
Ms. Burrows received her B.A. from New College of Florida in 1977 and her J.D., summa cum laude, from Temple University of Law in 1983. At Temple, Ms. Burrows was Note and Comment Editor of the Temple Law Review. Mr. Burrows is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and is admitted to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and various courts of appeal. Ms. Burrows is a member of the American and Philadelphia Bar Associations and is a fellow of the Litvin Academy of Advocacy. Ms. Burrows is a member of ARIAS-US and has been certified by ARIAS as a reinsurance arbitrator. Ms. Burrows has also served as an arbitrator for the NYSE and the NASD and has received extensive mediation training from the Center for Public Resources. In addition, she assisted in drafting CPR rules for the inter-company mediation of coverage disputes.
Ms. Burrows has been a regular speaker at reinsurance and insurance industry conferences, and has written articles for various industry publications.
