Carl Butler is a Louisiana native -- born in New Orleans and reared in Jackson, LA, East Feliciana Parish. He has practiced law in state and federal courts throughout Louisiana for over 26 years. He earned an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his law degree from the University of Michigan where he served as an Associate Note Editor on the Michigan Journal of Law Reform.
Mr. Butler's law practice has been wide ranging and diverse, though primarily focused on civil litigation, insurance defense and representation of public bodies. Currently, his client list includes the Hanover Insurance Company, Traveler's Insurance Company, City of New Orleans, Louis Armstrong International Airport and the Parish of St. John the Baptist, in addition to many successful local small businesses and individuals.
To his credit, Mr. Butler has published in professional journals both as a law student and a practicing attorney. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, American Bar Association and National Bar Association. At the 2011 Spring Conference of the ABA Toxic Torts and Environmental Law Conference held in Phoenix, AZ, Mr. Butler moderated a distinguished panel discussion on the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill. The panel featured Louisiana's Plaquemines Parish President, Billy Nungesser.
Since 2004 Mr. Butler has served as an attorney instructor at the Tulane University School of Law where he has presented instruction on professionalism at the Annual Law School Professionalism Orientation Program to incoming law school students. He has also previously served as an attorney instructor in the Trial Practice Program at the Loyola University College of Law.
In 2011 Mr. Butler was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court to a three-year term on the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board which investigates complaints of attorney misconduct and recommends appropriate disciplinary action to the Louisiana Supreme Court.
