Heather Sutton Buckley is a former prosecutor with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office in Santa Maria. She prosecuted hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases, many through to jury trial. She also has extensive experience advocating for the community in juvenile court and collaborating with defense counsel, probation officers, judges, mental health and drug treatment providers in juvenile and adult drug courts.
Heather was born in Los Angeles County and raised in Mission Viejo, California. She was on the girls' varsity soccer team for four years and enjoyed many years of competitive club soccer in Mission Viejo. She graduated from Trabuco Hills High School in 1996 at the top of her class.
Heather attended the University of California, Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.). After a summer externship in Washington, D.C. with the Department of Social Services, Juvenile Probation Department, she made it her mission to pursue a law degree and become a prosecutor. She graduated at the top of her class with bachelor of arts degrees in English and psychology in 2000.
In 2004, Heather graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law with a juris doctorate degree. She has been a member of the California State Bar since 2005. She is a skilled trial lawyer who exhibits the highest degree of professionalism and ethics inside and outside of the courtroom.
Heather met her husband, Brian John Buckley, at Santa Clara University School of Law. They married in 2006 and have two children, a son and daughter. Both children joined the family through international adoption from Ethiopia
Heather formed The Buckley Law Firm with her husband, Brian, because she wanted to use her experience and expertise to really help families. She is a skilled trial lawyer who exhibits the highest degree of professionalism and ethics inside and outside of the courtroom.
When she has time for herself, Heather enjoys jogging in preparation for short and long races all over California, playing and coaching soccer, creative writing (still working on that novel), reading mysteries and international news stories, visiting new coffee shops, and singing karaoke.
