Cathy M. Brownson was admitted to the bar in 2010. She is licensed to practice in the state of Indiana and U.S. District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Cathy received her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 2010.
Cathy concentrates her practice in family law, mediation, general civil litigation, criminal defense and appeals. Her experience in family law includes divorce, paternity, custody, child support, parenting time, emancipation, relocation issues, post-decree modifications and enforcement, guardianships, appeals, and guardian ad litem advocacy. Cathy concentrates the majority of her criminal defense practice in criminal defense appeals. Cathy was a legal student intern for the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, and served as a judicial intern for judges in both Hamilton County and Marion County courts. Cathy also served as a law clerk for the attorneys at Coots, Henke & Wheeler while attending law school.
Cathy is both a Registered Domestic Relations Mediator and Registered Civil Mediator in Indiana. Cathy concentrates her mediation practice in the area of family law disputes in Hamilton and Marion Counties.
In 2010, Cathy received the Norman Lefstein Award of Excellence for her hours of pro bono legal service to the community from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis Pro Bono Program. Cathy provides both her litigation and mediation services through Heartland Pro Bono Council for those who could not otherwise obtain legal services. Cathy also volunteers and serves the community of Hamilton County where she resides, including as a catechist for children at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist.
