Steven K. Brumer practices primarily in the areas of consumer bankruptcy, estate planning, probate, trust administration, and litigation of these matters. Prior to becoming affiliated with Fleischer & Associates, he served as general counsel to various real estate and mortgage entities including Windsor Capital Mortgage Corporation, the National Academy of Independent Brokers, and Real Estate Consulting Group.
Steven is one of few attorneys who have earned a specialized post-graduate degree, the Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in taxation, from the University of San Diego. This course of study focuses on tax planning, analysis, and litigation. These areas of expertise influence estate planning (with respect to income tax, gift tax, estate tax, and generation skipping tax), bankruptcy (in dealing with the dischargeability and repayment of tax debts), and business matters (relating to business tax and entity selection issues for new and established businesses). In short, this additional expertise pays dividends for Brumer’s clients in every case he handles.
"There are hundreds, possibly thousands of attorneys to choose from and many will do an excellent job," says Brumer. "With such important decisions to make, a client needs someone he or she will want to work with and whom they trust and respect. Bankruptcy, litigation and estate planning are mostly about choosing, planning, and using strategy. Only an experienced attorney with knowledge of the law and the way your jurisdiction is handling certain issues is in the right position to counsel and guide you along."
A New York City native, Brumer graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 1999 and began practicing in Miami, Florida in that year. In 2001, he earned his LL.M. degree in taxation and obtained his license to practice law in California. Brumer also holds licenses to practice before various federal courts in California and Florida, as well as the United States Tax Court. Brumer is an active member of the San Diego County Bar Association’s bankruptcy section and a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.
An avid road cyclist, Brumer participates in numerous charity and century rides each year. Having been diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes (formerly known as "Juvenile Diabetes") while in law school, he serves the San Diego community as a mentor for children and teens living with diabetes and also serves as chairperson of the "Dads’ Club" and a member of the School Site Council at his children’s elementary school. Steven Brumer resides in San Diego with his two children and the family’s yellow Labrador.
