Oscar Brinson has served as legal counsel for the Commission on VASAP (which oversees 25 local Alcohol Safety Action Programs statewide) since it's inception in 1986. He was also legal counsel for the House Courts of justice in the Virginia Assembly for 16 years, during which time he drafted much of the Commonwealth's current highway safety and criminal statutes.
More recently, Mr. Brinson has served on various General Assembly and Virginia Crime Commissions studies to propose legislation pertaining to criminal sexual assault and highway safety issues involving DUI and habitual offenders. Over the past ten years, he has been a frequent speaker to various highway safety groups and at statewide judicial conferences.
Since 1995 Mr. Brinson has been a criminal defense attorney in Richmond. His legal practice includes defense of all types of criminal cases, with emphasis on DUI and drug offenses. During the January 2001 and 2002 sessions of the Virginia General Assembly, Mr. Brinson has also served as Special Counsel on criminal laws and issues for the House Courts of Justice Committee and revised all proposed criminal legislature by the General Assembly.
