Bert S. Braud graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (B.A., English, 1981), and the University of Kansas School of Law (J.D. 1984). He has worked at The Popham Law Firm since graduating from law school.
Bert specializes in trial practice. He focuses on Employment Discrimination Litigation. He is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, and their local Kansas City Chapter. He has held various offices in the Kansas City NELA affiliate, including President (2011-2013), Vice-President (2009-2011) and Secretary (2007-2009). He has also served on the Board of the Eighth Circuit NELA affiliate. His affiliation with NELA locally and nationally provides him access to the leading experts around the country in Employment Law, and helps him stay current in this complex and changing area of practice.
Bert is recognized in the Kansas City area as someone knowledgeable and experienced in this field, and has a rating with Martindale-Hubbell of AV. The Martindale-Hubbell AV Rating indicates very high to pre-eminent legal ability and very high ethical standards as established by confidential opinions from members of the Bar. He is a frequent speaker at seminars for both lawyers and human resources personnel on topics such as Employment Law Litigation and Trial Practice. Bert has tried over 40 cases to a jury verdict, including several that resulted in verdicts over $1,000,000.00. He assisted his partner, Dennis Egan, in a landmark verdict for sexual harassment against UBS that resulted in a verdict of over $10.6 million, and another trial for breach of an employment contract that resulted in a verdict of $1,000,000.00, and an award of punitive damages. He also participated in a non-jury trial that resulted in a verdict over $1,000,000.00. Bert was co-counsel in an age discrimination class action that resulted in a settlement of $57 million, and a race discrimination class action that resulted in a settlement of
$6,750,000.00.
Bert is married and has two grown children. His hobbies include golf and music (he plays guitar and bass in a local band).
Bert is also a "weekend carpenter/woodworker." He spends one week every year re-building homes in areas around the country that have been devastated by natural disasters. Among other sites, he has made two trips to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina; Cedar Rapids, IA and Nashville, TN following major floods; and Joplin, MO after the tornado of 2011. He has also worked with Habitat for Humanity.
