James Branton, a native of Islip, New York has been a member of the Georgia Bar since 1998. He graduated from the prestigious Emory University Law School where he also obtained his undergraduate education. James is a trial attorney who is intensely passionate about helping people and focuses his practice around the related areas of Bankruptcy, Consumer Advocacy, Commercial Litigation, and Family Law. 

James initially began the practice of law working on the side of banks and other financial institutions. Prior to starting his own law firm, he was a partner with a large Atlanta-based firm that specialized in consumer collection matters. During his tenure there, he developed proprietary software that helped grow the firm into one of the largest collections firms in the United States. That section of the firm’s practice grew to a market valuation of $45 million and was eventually spun off into a joint venture with a national private equity firm.

However, James quickly came to find that his true passion was helping individual consumers and their families in defending against the aggressive and strong-armed collection tactics often employed by the very same companies he was working for. In James’ own words:

“I switched sides in the perpetual Debtor-Creditor struggle because I have been deeply immersed in the other side and detest it. I understand exactly how the creditor side leverages passivity and lack of legal counsel on the consumer side in order to achieve successes in and out of the litigation context to which they are not justly entitled. I was a collection lawyer by accident but I am a Zealous Consumer Advocate by choice.”

James has conducted several seminars in the past concerning Fair Debt Collection Litigation and other consumer debt-related topics. He is one of the most knowledgeable attorneys on the subject of debt collection in all of West Georgia. James represents people to keep them from getting steamrolled by a system that all too often plays on people’s emotions to demean or guilt them into caving into the unfair demands of large corporations whose only desire at the end of the day is to make a profit. Helping people improve their situations is not even a remotest consideration of a debt collection agency.

Now with his own firm, James believes in a collaborative approach to legal issues with the personal philosophy that his clients should get the most “bang for their buck”. This is especially true for his family law practice where he helps clients navigate the maze of legal issues when it comes to divorce, child support, and property division matters. He will never recommend unnecessary, expensive, or antagonistic legal procedures or strategies that provide no value to his clients. However, if a particular situation requires it, James will not hesitate to bring to bear the full scope of his litigating abilities and fight for his clients who are being poorly treated or bullied by the other side.

In addition to being a tireless advocate for his clients, James also faithfully served his country for almost a decade of his life. He spent several years serving as an enlisted soldier in Military Intelligence and as a commissioned officer in the Armored Cavalry.
