COURT ADMISSIONS: All Georgia trial courts; Georgia Supreme Court; Georgia Court of Appeals; United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia and Middle District of Georgia; and United States 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
MY CAREER: After graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1984, I was selected for a two-year judicial clerkship (staff attorney for four Superior Court judges). Afterwards, I was employed with the insurance defense law firm of Irwin, Bladen, Baker & Russell, in Atlanta. My position involved the defense of clients accused of negligence, including automobile and tractor-trailer collisions, wrongful death, premises liability claims, slander, and false arrest.
Since 1989 my practice has been largely limited to representing clients with personal injuries, and the Estates of those who lost their lives due to the negligence of others. I practiced in metro Atlanta until 2000, and since then my office has been located in Athens. I regularly represent clients throughout north and middle Georgia, including the Athens/Atlanta area. My wife and I reside in Athens.
ACTIVITIES: I was a Panel Arbitrator for the Fulton County Superior and State courts from 1989 until 2000. (I am trained and certified in Georgia as a Civil Mediator and Arbitrator). For many years I have been a Civil Mediator with the Cobb County Superior Courts' Alternative Dispute Resolution Program. Since 2008, I have been a Civil Mediator with the Gwinnett County Alternative Dispute Resolution Program. I have been a participant in the Gwinnett County Pro Bono project, and the "1000 Lawyers for Justice" program in Fulton County. I regularly serve as a volunteer Judge or Evaluator in Georgia High School Moot Court competitions.
CONTINUING EDUCATION: I have received all continuing legal education required by the State Bar of Georgia since 1984. Additionally, I attend yearly mediation continuing education training through the Cobb County Superior Courts' Alternative Dispute Program.
