Stephen A. Bornstein provides general counsel services to investment advisers, private fund managers and family offices on a consultative basis. He has been advising asset managers on all aspects of their investment operations since 1980.
During the course of his career, Stephen has negotiated and overseen over $30 billion of separate account mandates from all types of institutional and high-net-worth investors and developed and overseen more than 20 hedge funds, funds of hedge funds and venture capital funds for global asset management organizations. He has also investigated the private fund and separate account marketing regulations in over 30 European, Middle Eastern, Asian and Latin American countries.

• communicate with investors, regulators and the media on both routine and sensitive matters

As a solo practitioner, Stephen provides only personalized service to his clients. With his in-house background, he can act directly for clients or help them select appropriate outside counsel and oversee counsel's services so as to minimize overall legal expenses.
Stephen opened his solo New York law practice in 2010 after having served as a Senior Vice President of D. E. Shaw and General Counsel of Bear Stearns Asset Management. He began his legal career at Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
