Mr. Blevins is a litigation attorney with extensive experience handling large, complex commercial disputes. A Michigan native, Mr. Blevins practiced law for more than a decade in Washington, D.C. As a litigator with Washington, D.C.'s Swidler & Berlin (now Bingham McCutchen LLP), Mr. Blevins has represented clients in major disputes throughout the United States. Multiple, simultaneous actions on behalf of a New York electric utility to avoid the crippling consequences of uneconomic wholesale power purchase agreements imposed upon it by state regulators.
Recovery of more than $20 million in bid preparation costs on behalf of a major defense contractor in a Federal Government bid protest.
Successful constitutional challenge to the State of Massachusetts' regulation of a local telephone company's entrance into the cable television market.
Successful defense of a South Carolina utility in a Federal Trade Commission antitrust investigation.
Numerous actions throughout the U.S. in support of new entrants into the local telephone markets.
Successful pro bono constitutional challenge to a capital murder conviction in Alabama, followed by a retrial resulting in a reduced sentence.
In addition to his litigation experience, Mr. Blevins has represented clients in a wide range of matters, from drafting federal highway legislation to defending against a Grand Jury inquiry into privileged communications with a former White House deputy counsel, to a supporting role in the successful effort to gain confirmation of a U.S. Supreme Court nominee.
In 2002, Mr. Blevins returned to Michigan, where he continues his national litigation practice. While concentrating on construction industry disputes with McAlpine & Associates, Mr. Blevins also enjoys a wide range of success representing businesses in the auto industry and related fields.
Mr. Blevins is a 1990 cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan law school, where he served as Articles Editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law. He also received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, graduating with High Honors in English Literature.
