JOHN BICKERMAN is an internationally recognized arbitrator and mediator, specializing in complex, multi-party, high value, commercial, insurance coverage, environmental, and public policy disputes. In the last twenty years, he has logged over 20,000 hours and has resolved more than three billion dollars in claims in more than thirty-five states. He specializes in mediating insurance coverage, employment, complex commercial and construction defect disputes. More than two dozen Fortune 100 companies and one dozen states have retained Mr. Bickerman to arbitrate or mediate their disputes. He has resolved disputes between the Federal government, tribes and states, including four major water allocation or water diversion conflicts throughout the country, most recently the water rights claims between Denver and Colorado River Basin interests on the West Slope of the Rockies. He has mediated statutory enforcement actions, takings claims, and other natural resources conflicts. John has also had the privilege of facilitating discussions between Palestinians and Israelis in Jerusalem five times in the last ten years.

John is a former Chair of the American Bar Association, Section of Dispute Resolution and an Adjunct Professor at Cornell University and a former Adjunct Professor of Dispute Resolution at Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the National Panel of Distinguished Neutrals of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (“CPR”), the International Academy of Mediators, the original panel of mediators for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and one of the original members of the United States Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution roster. Mr. Bickerman has written numerous articles on alternative dispute resolution and frequently lectures and trains judges, public officials, attorneys and claims adjusters. Topics include the representation of clients in mediation, trends in corporate use of ADR, and the mediation of construction and insurance disputes.For the last six years, Mr. Bickerman has been selected by his peers as one of The Best Lawyers in America. He received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, magna cum laude, and undergraduate and graduate degrees from Cornell University.
