Markus Bergauer drafts and prosecutes US and international patent applications and assists in patent due diligence and freedom-to-operate investigations in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields.
Markus previously worked as a deputy program leader of a full lead optimization program at GlaxoSmithKline's Psychiatry Center of Excellence for Drug Discovery in Verona, Italy. He is named co-inventor on several patent applications relating to psychiatry drug discovery. Markus obtained his Ph.D. in the area of organic and medicinal chemistry from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany where he performed research within the Institute of Pharmacy on the synthesis of selective dopamine receptor ligands, protecting group development and solid phase synthesis. After obtaining his Ph.D. he received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and joined the Breslow Group at the chemistry department of Columbia University in New York City where he focused on the synthesis of small molecules and peptides as novel histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi).
