J. Darrell Beckham was born and raised in Lancaster, South Carolina. Darrell was raised by his mother, Kemmie Beckham, and by his grandparents James W. Beckham and the late Patricia Beckham. In 1997, he graduated from Lancaster High School with honors. After attending the University of South Carolina Lancaster campus, he enrolled in Winthrop University. While attending Winthrop University, he joined Catawba Baptist Church and was baptized by Pastor Tommy Huddleston. Darrell worked numerous positions dealing with finance, while studying at Winthrop and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration, concentration Finance. In 2002, after graduation he married Winthrop graduate Kenley Perry of Bamberg, South Carolina and in 2010 they were blessed with a daughter. In order to be more involved in the community, Darrell worked fulltime at the Medicine Shoppe in Rock Hill, South Carolina during the year between undergraduate studies and law school.
In 2003, Darrell and his wife, Kenley, packed up and moved to Lansing, Michigan for him to attend law school. For three years, he took the required law courses as well as a heavy concentration in business and finance. Darrell excelled in law school and graduated with distinction earning a Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Returning to South Carolina, he interned with C. Joseph Roof of Sherrill Roof Millender, LLP of Columbia, South Carolina. He passed the South Carolina Bar Exam on his first attempt. Upon admission to the South Carolina Bar in May 2007, Darrell opened his practice in Newberry County choosing to focus on family law and small business law. His extensive education and experience in finance has offered and will continue to offer his clients a more detailed perspective of financial issues related to divorce and child custody. For the last four years, he has served the family law needs of Newberry County and surrounding areas. He has been a member of the Newberry County Bar Association and has been a long term member of the American Bar Association.
Darrell has chosen to return to his hometown of Lancaster, South Carolina and looks forward to being a member of the Lancaster Bar Association.. This move is motivated by a desire to serve the community he grew up in and still cherishes. He looks forward to serving the family law needs of Lancaster, Chester, and York counties by heading up the family law practice for Schiller & Hamilton, LLC.
