Ellen Bennett Becker was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in northern Maryland. She attended Westtown School, a Quaker boarding school located Pennsylvania. She got her B.A. in political science from the University of Michigan graduating cum laude, and named a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and Mortar Board, a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. She worked and lived in Washington, D.C. and then New York City before attending law school at Albany Law School where she obtained a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude. She was Managing Editor of the Albany Law Review and received the Scribes Award from the American Society of Writers on Legal Subjects for her law review article.
She was a law clerk with the Appellate Division, Third Department; served as associate with several Albany, New York law firms before joining her husband in the firm of Becker & Becker in 1989. Since that time she has concentrated her practice in the field of family law, surety and fidelity law and real estate.
Long interested in the arts, she also has a Master's in Expressive Arts Therapy granted by the European Graduate School located in Leuk-Stadt, Switzerland.
