After law school, Mr. Becker joined the National Labor Relations Board as a trial attorney for Region 14, St. Louis, Missouri. In 1972 he became associated with the Chicago-based law firm now known as Laner, Muchin, Dombrow, Becker, Levin and Tominberg, Ltd. He was admitted to partnership in 1976, served as the Firm's Managing Partner from 1986 to 2004, and worked extensively with the Firm's Entertainment clients, including public television, radio and cable TV entities.
On January 1, 2005, Mr. Becker joined Harpo Inc, where he now serves as its General Counsel and Vice President of Harpo Productions, Inc., the producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show. In addition, he is now Of Counsel to his former law firm, where he continues to be a resource to its attorneys and a consultant to its clients.
Mr. Becker has been named one of the Leading Lawyers in Illinois, based on a statewide survey of lawyers. Leading Lawyers comprise less than 5% of all lawyers in the state.
