Alexander N. Beard was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1962. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in Communications from Clemson University in 1985.
Alex received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1988 from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. While at Tulane, Alex was a member of the Tulane Moot Court Board and was the Notes and Comments Editor for the Tulane Maritime Law Journal. He also represented Tulane for three years in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
Upon graduating from law school, Alex practiced commercial and tort litigation with the Dallas law firm Gardere & Wynne. In January of 1991, Alex joined the firm of Bishop & Hummert. He is a member of the American, Texas, and Collin County Bar Associations, as well as the Texas Association of Defense Counsel and the Bar Association for the Fifth Federal Circuit. Alex is licensed to practice before the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Federal District Courts of Texas, the U. S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U. S. Supreme Court.
Alex is heavily involved in state and local bar activities. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Collin County Bar Association, and is the founder and Chairman of the Appellate Section of the Collin County Bar Association. He also serves on the Judiciary Relations Committee of the State Bar of Texas. Alex has taught Federal Practice at Southern Methodist University in the Legal Assistant Program, and has also taught Legal Research and Writing at the Southern Methodist University School of Law.
