Scott Barnhart began his career serving as a deputy attorney general for the Office of the Indiana Attorney General. Mr. Barnhart first served in the Appellate Division where he was responsible for representing the State of Indiana in direct and post-conviction appeals. He is an experienced appellate attorney who has authored over three hundred appellate briefs and has argued multiple times before the Supreme Court of Indiana and the Indiana Court of Appeals. He has been lead counsel in over twenty-five published decisions.
In 2008, Mr. Barnhart was selected by the Attorney General’s Office to participate in an exchange program where he served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. After gaining experience trying cases to juries as a deputy prosecutor, Mr. Barnhart returned to the Attorney General’s Office in 2009 and began practicing in the Civil Litigation Division where he represented the State of Indiana, its agencies, and its employees before state and federal courts throughout Indiana. He gained invaluable experience aggressively representing government clients in administrative proceedings, employment lawsuits, and civil rights lawsuits against law enforcement officers, correctional officers, prosecutors, and other state employees. Both as a trial and an appellate litigator, Mr. Barnhart is experienced at handling high profile cases with close media coverage. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Barnhart has also run his own small business, and welcomes the opportunity to work with small business owners and assist with their legal needs
