Steve Baril is a member of the Business and Professional Litigation practice group. He focuses his practice on complex litigation, business disputes and trial strategy. He has extensive jury trial experience in state and federal courts, including serving as lead and local counsel in the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the so-called "Rocket Docket."
Steve's experience in the Rocket Docket ranges from serving as counsel in the Blackberry® patent infringement case to antitrust and Lanham Act cases, as well as defending officers and directors against fraud and breach of fiduciary claims.
Steve has been a guest faculty member for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and is a frequent lecturer in Virginia on trial tactics. He is listed in the 2011 edition of Best Lawyers in America for commercial litigation. He has been recognized by the votes of his fellow lawyers many times on the Virginia Business magazine's "Virginia Legal Elite" and as a "Super Lawyer" for Business Litigation by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine. Steve has been rated AV, the highest possible ranking for ethics and experience, by the Martindale Hubbell Peer Review ratings system.
Steve has long been recognized for his leadership in business and political organizations, such as serving on the Boards of the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Richmond Partnership, Richmond's Future and Venture Richmond. He also serves on advisory committees to the cabinet of Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.
Steve is a past president of both the Richmond and Chesterfield bar associations. He has served on Bar Council for the Virginia State Bar and as chairman of the Lawyers Advertising Committee.
Steve is a graduate of the University of Richmond School of Law, where he was a member of the McNeill Law Society, Law Review and Omicron Delta Kappa. He earned his bachelor's degree (political science) from Hampden-Sydney College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude.
