Stephen E. Balogh concentrates his practice in the areas of civil rights, employment and labor litigation, primarily on behalf of employers and municipal entities. A partner with WilliamsMcCarthyLLP, Steve has represented clients in trial and appellate courts as well as before numerous federal and state agencies. He is admitted to practice and has appeared before the Supreme Courts of Illinois and Wisconsin, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Steve has directed management side labor, employment and civil rights defense matters for municipal entities such as Boone, Winnebago and Jo Daviess Counties, the Sheriffs of Boone and Winnebago Counties and the Cities of Loves Park, Freeport, Marengo, Sycamore, Harvard, Galena and Dixon. Steve has represented private entities including Chrysler Group LLC, Hewlett-Packard, York International, Inc., Paccar, Inc., PETCO, Terra Industries, Inc., Kelley Williamson Co., W.A. Whitney Co., and Cheap Trick. Some of the precedent setting litigation in which he has been involved includes Wilson v. Chrysler Corp.; Rockford Metropolitan Exposition Authority v. The Illinois Labor Relations Board; Amati v. The City of Woodstock; Tyrer v. The City of South Beloit; and Christensen v. The County of Boone.

Steve is a past president of both the Winnebago County Bar Association and Winnebago County Bar Foundation. He is secretary of the Section Council for the Labor & Employment Law Section of the Illinois State Bar Association. He is also active in the American Bar Association, the State Bar Association of Wisconsin and the Seventh Circuit Bar Association. Steve has received the highest peer ratings from Martindale-Hubbell and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the Leading Lawyers Network and Illinois Super Lawyers. He was on the drafting committee for the local rules and was selected by the Court as a mediator for the ADR program for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Steve was on active duty with the U. S. Marine Corps from 1977 until 1980. He also worked and lived in Japan for three years while completing his undergraduate degree. Active in the community, Steve is currently the First Vice-chair of the Board of Directors of the United Way Rock River Valley, and on the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts Rock River Valley Council, and the Carrie Lynn Children’s Center, Inc.
