John Haslam Bailey is a native of the Cache Valley in northern Utah. John attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where he received a Bachelor of Science in English with an emphasis in technical and professional writing and editing. He graduated with double minors in psychology and philosophy. While at USU, John was a member of the English honor society. Following graduation from Utah State University, John graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law (Juris Doctor, 1998) where he was a member of the North Dakota Law Review, the Legal Aid Association, Student Trial Lawyers Association and other various legal organizations.
Upon completion of law school, John returned to Logan, Utah, where he became associated with an insurance defense and general practice law firm. In May of 1999, John was admitted to practice in all courts of the State of Utah including the Federal District Court in Utah. In March of 2005, John was admitted to practice in all courts of the State of Idaho including the Federal District Court in Idaho. In December 2008, John became admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
John's practice during the past ten years has been primarily involved with insurance and insurance issues. He has spent considerable time practicing in the insurance defense arena, having represented numerous insureds through the litigation and arbitration process. His practice has also involved a significant amount of subrogation work for several different insurance carriers. John has been involved with different reported cases on appeal, including Gorostieta v. Parkinson (17 P.3d 1110).
In June 2008, John became a founding partner in Bailey & Hutchings, P.C., where he continues to practice in the areas of insurance defense, insurance subrogation, and general practice.
